The Making of the NEW "Beauty and the Beast"

A live-action version of the 1991 Disney film "Beauty and the Beast" is currently in production, and since we are in the process of making films ourselves, I thought it would be interesting to talk a little about the production schedule of the movie:

  • The summer of 2014 marked the first public announcement of work on the movie, as the director and screenwriter were announced and the script began to be written.

  • Almost a full year later, throughout the spring of 2015, announcements were made regarding casting.  In January, Emma Watson revealed she had signed on to play Belle, and on April 21st, the names of the last three major cast members were made public.

  • Filming began in May and finished in August of this year - so it took about three months to shoot a 2-3 hour feature film.

  • The film is set to be released on March 17th, 2017!

I don't know why it takes three years of official production and three months of filming to make a 2-3 hour movie, but whatever the reasons, I absolutely admire the cast and crew for having such patience and taking so much time to construct a finished product that is so tiny in comparison to all the work spent on it.  I especially respect the director and screenwriter, who were part of the film the longest and had to keep a strong and steady vision (of what they wanted the film to look and feel like) over a period of at least three years.

Some of the new cast and their 1991 counterparts!

Such a long time until 2017, but I think it will be worth the wait!
