Something that Just Made "The Lion King" Even Better than it Already is

The Lion King on Broadway is an absolutely breathtaking show.  I hope all of you have a chance to see it someday, if you'd like, because everything is done so brilliantly: costumes, sets, music, story, and of course acting and singing.

Today, a magazine called Wired released a video that they say is a work of Virtual Reality.  They filmed the opening sequence - "The Circle of Life" - using a GoPro camera, and cut to different angles to give the viewer the sense that they are there, on stage, in the midst of the performance.

The article recommends watching it with something like this,

but I don't have one of those so I watched it on my computer!  I did not feel too much more immersed in the story than I do watching regular videos, but it was still very, very enjoyable  - more enjoyable the longer I watched it.

From a theater seat, it is sometimes difficult to catch nuances or character expressions.  Both are caught here, as well as backstage angles and a bit of set maneuvering as Pride Rock rises from the ground.  I hope you watch it, because it is so very good!

This is the scene filmed for the video.  If you watch the video you'll get to see, up close, the beautiful performances of Mufasa and Sarabi in this moment.  (The 1080 (HD) setting worked best for me.)
