UPDATE!!! Something that just made "The Lion King" Even EVEN Better!!!!

Those of you who have seen my last post know that "The Lion King" on Broadway recently released a video of the first scene - "The Circle of Life" - via a Wired magazine article, in which different angles from an onstage perspective were filmed and released to the public.  The article said it was a form of virtual reality and that many viewers felt they really were onstage.

I thought the 'being onstage' feeling - and the 'virtual reality' designation - came from wearing something like this,



which they recommended using when watching the sequence.  But it is SO MUCH BETTER than that!

I must not have been paying close attention to the article because it was only on my 3rd time watching the video that I figured out what it was supposed to do.  When you watch it, you can drag the screen so that you spin the camera and can look anywhere you want from your vantage point on stage!!!!

You can look at the floor or the ceiling, at the audience or behind the stage, at different actors and dancers and sets all around, and of course you can't look at everything in one viewing so you have to watch it more than once!  And yes! there is much more of a feeling of really being there onstage, and standing on Pride Rock, and looking in on a special, hitherto-untapped interpretation of the story!

While we wait for "The Lion King" on Broadway to come to the Tri-Cities, this incredible and unprecedented video is, I think, a very acceptable temporary substitute!
